This page of the Pine Ridge Sanctuary section is devoted to photographs of some of the 380 some odd plants growing in the Pine Ridge Sanctuary Pine Rockland ecosystem - 18 of which are endemic. Many of these are State and Federally listed as Endangered and/or Threatened.
The photographs at the bottom of the page show some of the projects we have entered into on our own or with the help of grants to help restore the Pineland after Hurricane Andrew, to enhance the ecosystem to promote biodiversity, and to monitor the ecosystem for improvement.

 long<br>6 inch diameter (15 cm) Burmese Python – Python molurus bivittatus - <br> came out of our pineland and I caught it to kill this exotic pest that is endangering<br>all of South Florida. I cut off its head as it was wrapped 8 times around my leg.<br>At the end of the burn, we called Everglades National Park and the researchers <br>did an autopsy on the snake to determine what it had been eating<br>because this was the first Python that they knew had been eating entirely in a Rock Pineland.<br>The snake was about 2 years old and at that age can lay from 20 to 100 eggs.<br>We suspect one more Python was killed in the prescribed burn<br>because two days after the burn we could smell buttered popcorn<br>at the back of the property – a sure sign of cooked Python meat.<br>It is estimated that there are over 250,000 Pythons in South Florida<br>right now and there will be over 1,000,000 within a few years.','800','720'))
